Captain Davidson, Lieutenant Moore, and Deputy Chief Taylor visited the children and staff to talk about fire saftey and smoke detectors. The children were also shown the capabilities of Medic 257 and Quint 251. Luckily everyone was all smiles while being outside for approximately an hour in the seasonably mild day. EXPLOSION CAUSES SCRAP YARD FIRE
Wednesday, May 7, 2008
-
Yet another busy day around the station later turned into a large mutual aid situation. Engine 252 arrived on scene at Berry Iron and Metal yard within two minutes of dispatch to find an approximately 75 square feet area of fire. Most of the fire involved various scrap cars and scrap metal debris. Initial size up led 252 to dispatch Quint 251, Marion Fire Department, and Adwolfe Fire Department. All units were dispatched for elevated master streams, additional personnel, water supply, and traffic control. Town, County, and State law enforcement also assisted with scene security and traffic control. The fire had apparently began when scrap yard workers were cutting metal for disposal when a liquid fuel storage tank was torn causing an explosion. The fire spread quickly to a large stack of scrap cars and debris, but the fire was extinguished within two hours. Units cleared the call at 1836.
