Free Child Seat Inspections

CFD would like to offer Free Child Seat Inspections/Installations, February 23 8am-5pm at the Station. We want to make sure the children in our community are in the proper child seats and the seat is installed correctly. We are looking to see that: ** the seat is appropriate for the child's weight/height ** the seat is installed correctly **the belts are in correct positioning and tightness. We will also try to answer any questions you may have.

Command 201 and Quint 251 responded to 130 Lee Highway for water in the building. Upon arrival, found domestic water lines in building had burst in two places. Assisted with evacuating the water. Call cleared 23:44.

Command 201, Engine 252 and Tanker 253 responded to a brush fire at 1391 Whitetop Road. Upon arrival, found a large brush fire in a ravine, possibly started by discarded ashes. Extinguished. Call cleared 01:48.

As being cancelled from previous call, Command 201 witnessed a single vehicle spin out of control at the 38 NB of Interstate 81. No injuries or hazards reported. Call cleared 20:30.

Two Vehicle MVC

Command 201, Brush 254 and Medics 257 & 258 responded to a MVC on Tilson Hollow Road along with Adwolfe Fire Department. Upon arrival, found a church van and a pickup both sustaining lateral damages. No injuries were reported. Call cleared 14:17.

CFD welcomed a new family member...Emma Sunshine Davidson. Born at 7:36am, 6lbs 12.9oz, 18.75 inches. She is the daughter of Assistant Chief Josh and Kelly Davidson.

Annual Awards Reception

The 2014 Awards Reception was held at the Old High School. Chief Haynes, Assistant Chief Davidson, Deputy Chief Moore and Captain Widener recognized new members, Explorers and presented awards. New members recognized were Firefighter/EMT Jenna Haynes, Firefighter/EMT Jamie Tolliver, EMT James Carter, Firefighter/EMT Jason Cline, Engineer Scooter Tolbert and EMT Mark McGee. New Explorers recognized were Ben Creasy and Alex Taschereau. The J. E. Morphew Ribbon (200 or more training hours completed) was presented to Chief David Haynes, Assistant Chief Josh Davidson, Deputy Chief Brandon Moore, Firefighter/EMT Luke Newton, Firefighter/EMT Darien Hamm and Firefighter/EMT Jenna Haynes. Firefighter/EMT Jenna Haynes was credited with receiving the most training hours in 2014. The Firefighter Attendance Ribbon (responded to most volunteer calls) was presented to Sergeant Jeannie Haynes. The Educational Achievement Ribbon was presented to Firefighter/EMT Jenna Haynes, Firefighter/EMT Jason Cline, EMT Mark McGee, EMT James Carter and Firefighter/EMT Jamie Tolliver. Members recognized for attaining certifications during the year were Deputy Chief Brandon Moore, Firefighter/EMT Darien Hamm, Firefighter/EMT Jenna Haynes, Firefighter/EMT Austin Mason, Firefighter/EMT Luke Newton, Firefighter/EMT Eric Sweat, Sergeant Willie Gollehon, Captain Keith Martin, EMT James Carter, Firefighter/EMT Jason Cline and EMT Mark McGee. The Meritorious Service Award was presented to EMT Keri Roberts and Firefighter/EMT Jenna Haynes who were the recipients of the Southwest Virginia EMS Council Award for Outstanding Contribution to EMS by a High School Senior. The Distinguished Service Award was present to Captain Randy Jones, Sergeant Willie Gollehon, Firefighter Eric Sweat, Firefighter Darien Hamm, Firefighter Morgan Widener and Firefighter Jenna Haynes for their exemplary efforts to search for and locate a missing child on June 29.

Tree on Electrical Lines
